This information can enhance one's level of knowledge.
People who write books conduct extensive research on the subject they are writing about in order to look at what is already being said about it already. This means that the information is from reliable sources and looks at various angles towards a certain topic. Reading materials such as these already trains a person to be open to various views and also develop one's voice as people can never just passively read; they will form an opinion.
In any careers, there is always some level of admin work that is required. Activities have to be reported on and there is a right way in which they should be presented. Good reading skills enable one to quickly process information and react appropriately. It also plays a role in developing one's imagination. This is an important attribute to have in any career. Imagination plays an important role in problem solving.
